The Maces from the Present Bulgarian Lands 10th - 17th C. AD

Stoyan Popovwas born in 1977 in the heart of the Balkans, the capital of ancient Bulgaria - Sofia. He has Bachelor and MA degree in the field of Archaeology from New Bulgarian University in Sofia. In 2006 he defended with distinction PhD thesis: “The Castle in Europe and Bulgaria during the Middle Ages”. He is working in the University of Plovdiv as a full time lecturer in the department of History and Archaeology in the Faculty of Philosophy and History. From 2014 Stoyan Popov is associated professor of Mediaeval Archaeology 11th -15th c. in the University of Plovdiv. Assoc, prof. Popov took part in the archaeological excavations in Pliska, Melnik, Sep-temvri, Kavarna, Sopot and is heading-researcher of few archaeological sites in Parvomai municipality, district of Plovdiv. His researches and publications are concentrated in the area of the archaeology of arms, armour and war of the cold steel weaponry, problems of the medieval castle, the military and civil architecture of the Middle Ages.
