The project of sketching a portrait of scientific research in terms of herrneneutic philosophy invites the necessity of deconstructing established (epistemological) pictures of science. Very often the pictures I have in mind are united under the heading of "scientism". In a narrow sense, scientism is the doctrine that science is the sole legitimate source of empirical knowledge.
