Boyan Radev, the strangest of the whole lot of art collectors, who ire strange enough for that matter, was born on 25 February 1942, lie city of Pernik. He was a Greco-Roman wrestler and a two-times -^npic champion too (at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and :ле Mexico Olympics in the summer of 1968), winning the 1966 istling World Championship held in Toledo and Bulgaria's Sports -onality of the Year award in 1964, 1967 and 1968.

Apart from Olympic and world awards, Boyan Radev is collecting orks: paintings, Roman stone statuary, icons and church plate. —is not only a collector, but also a donator. Bulgaria's museum history - - never seen such a major benefactor. He gave 200 artefacts to the -lional History Museum alone. The National Art Gallery, the one in ^nokov, etc., also received collections by him, comprising not only ^r.oent pieces of art, but also his sports trophies.

That was the reason why the title of the Principal Benefactor of zae National History Museum was conferred on him and he has a hall eixing his name.

This humble catalogue was composed in yet another effort to : press our museums gratitude to a great Bulgarian, Boyan Radev.
